A Birthday Gift

I found this really cool tute on how to make a book clock.  And then I could not find it and this post as just been sitting there mocking me!  Well, no more I have found the blog where I originally saw the tute, http://shealynns-faerie-shoppe.blogspot.com/2011/08/book-clock-tutorial.html.

I wanted to make this for a friend, and of course I had a ton of those books that were in my Dad's attic.  So here is my clock.
It took a while to cut the pages but I think it turned out well and She liked it!

UFO's for 2012

No, I haven't been out at night looking for spaceships!  I read Judy at http://www.patchworktimes.com/.  She has a UFO Challenge each year and this year I am going to join in.  Each month she picks a number between 1 and 12 and that is the project you work on that month.  The hard thing is figuring which 12 projects to finish!

So here is my list for 2012!  And they are not all quilts, but stuff I really need to finish sewing to.

1.  Seat cushion covers for a friend.  Ummm, I have had these on the list for like 4 years maybe?  Wow should work on those soon!

2.  A embroidered quilt from blocks made by a friends Mother.  The embroidery is already done, just need to put in a quilt.

3.  DD's Quilt - Top is made, back is almost done, just really needs quilted and bound.

4.  DD's T-shirt Quilt - Just need to add a couple of shirts and back and quilt.  Lets see she is 19 and was supposed to get this on her 16th?

5.  DS's T-shirt Quilt - Have the shirts prepped so need to pick up from there.  He is only 17 so only a year late on this!

6. Christmas Tree Skirt - Not sure how long I have had this.

7.  Amish Country Quilt - I pick up fabric each time we go, so this may never be done!

8.  Blue & Yellow Quilt - Top is done and needs quilted

9.  Dad's Quilt - This is a quilt that the batting bunched up on and I took it apart to fix and did not get it back together before he died, at that time I put it away.  Now I want to get it done for me.

10.  State Quilt - I have patches signed by most of the counties in my state and started this in 200something for our 200th year.

11.  Secret Sister Quilt - I was in a secret sister quilt block swap around 2000.

12.  Pillowcases - I have a ton of them that I sewed the cuffs on and just need to sew the seams.

I am also in a block swap on Flikr and have a few quilts to make for a show this year!   Lots to do and we will be moving too, Wow, can I just sleep through 2012?

I can't believe it!

Yes, it has been a while since I posted, sometimes life just gets busy!  Here is something that I have been busy with....

Cool, huh?  I won this beauty, even better!  If you check out Accuquilt on FaceBook, they have a Friday Fun Question, you anser the question and see if you get an email saying you've won.  Well I got the email, and then I deleted it without realizing I had won!  I emailed Accuquilt and asked if maybe possiabley I won.  They answered back pretty fast and got the Go! Baby right out to me.

I have been saving for this or the larger cutter and now I could use this money to buy dies.  This is such a hard decision!  There are so many great dies to choose, finally I chose the 2 1/2" strip die.  I cut my fabric into 2 1/2" strips for bindings, so this will save so much time.  I can lay as many layers as I need and cut them all at once.  The ends of the strip die does not have blades, so I don't have to worry about getting short pieces.  This die is great and the Go! Baby is so neat and small.  Now I will pick up dies every so often and save a lot of time cutting basic shapes and the shaped dies are so cute, maybe I will start doing applique!

It seems as if this has turned into a review!  Well it is fun to use and easy to store!

On the Design Wall

Well, not really on the wall, just on the cutting table. I am halfway through my 3 x 6 bee swap blocks. This quarter I decided to do something different than the regular blocks I have been making.

I stepped it up with quarter square triangles.  I like how they form the pinwheels.  They take a little more time, but they are fun to make.  I hope my swap buddies like them.

Cabinet Repainted

I wanted a small bookcase to put in the kitchen to put my Pyrex on.  Craigslist to the rescue!  I found this tall skinny cabinet for hardly nothing.  In the picture it looked cream colored, but in real life it was mustard.  That was not the color I wanted, so I got out the paint, hmm, red or white?  White, of course!

I repainted it and could not wait to get it in the kitchen!  And load it down with vintage stuff!  I love the vintage feel to it.  See the glasses?  I bought those at a yard sale on a whim, like $.50.  They are the green glass that is bubbly.  The kids love them!  They generally roll their eyes when Mom comes home with stuff, but they use these every day, I am always washing and putting them back!  Who'd a thunk it?

Vintage Patio Set Redo

A few weeks ago I went by a yard sale.  Whoa, what was that and is it for sale?  Yes, it was!  It was a wonderful vintage patio set with the glass top and all 4 chairs!  How much?  $10!  Yes, $10!  Yes, Please, and Thank You!  There was a few minutes that I thought maybe I would have to leave my car stuff at the sale to get the set home, but I got it all in the back of the Jeep.

So later after I picked up paint, a really pretty yellow.  I sanded the rusty spots and sprayed it with the paint.  It was already yellow just faded.  That made it easy to paint.  Now for the cushions.  I did not know what I wanted but narrowed it down to red, black or aqua.  Off to Joann's I went and got piping and fabric, all of their outdoor was 50% off so I saved some bucks there.  I chose a Aqua fabric, just because that is what they had that I liked.

So now fast forward 2 weeks, and this it what I have now!  Isn't it great!  I love it and so does the family, it will look really good on the sun porch, bring a little summer to the winter!

Sorry I only have the after photo!  Of course I forgot to take a before!  Hope you like it too!

Souvenir Pin Display

I collected all of these great pins on our trip in June.  Now what am I going to do with them?  I didn't want to just throw them in a drawer and see them every once in a while when I opened that drawer!  So I made this neat display for them.
I just figured out the size I wanted it to be this is 15 x 24, and cut a triangle with the mountains that reminded me of the ones out west.  Sew on the grey, then another triangle and more grey, etc.....  I just winged it on the sizes.  I quilted it with bright yellow for the "road".  Then bound it and hung it in the hallway!  I love the way it turned out!  I get to see it everyday and remember a great vacation!  Maybe I should sew on a sleeve and hang it right?  LOL   Now I need one for the Quilt Shop Pins I have in my drawer!
